The month of October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month. It is dedicated to creating resources and communications for businesses to talk to their customers and employees about staying safe online.
Most cybersecurity articles will warn about massive data breaches, hackers and money lost. Instead, this month reminds people there are plenty of ways to keep your data safe and protected. It’s doing the simple basic things that can make the biggest difference when it comes to cybersecurity.
Everyone has a right to a safe internet, so let’s remember to #BeCyberSmart.
Starting in 2004, Cybersecurity Awareness Month is a collaboration between private industry and government to raise awareness about digital security and empower everyone to protect their personal data from cybercrime.
This Years Cybersecurity Awareness Month Focus
Now in its 19th year the theme for this year is 2022: See Yourself in Cyber.
There will be a strong focus on the following 4 key behaviours:
- Enabling Multi-Factor Authentication
- Using Strong Passwords and a Password Manager
- Updating Software
- Recognising and Reporting Phishing
